Snapchat introduced a feature that sends users an “Unviewed Story” notification around Summer 2022.
This notification is simply a reminder about stories from friends that haven’t been seen yet.
It aims to make sure you don’t miss any updates from your friends, even on the busiest days.
The ‘Unviewed Story’ Notification
When a friend posts a story on Snapchat and the user doesn’t view it within a few hours of its 24-hour lifecycle, Snapchat sends the ‘Unviewed Story’ notification.
Essentially, this is a friendly nudge, indicating that there’s a story from a friend waiting to be seen.
This notification was previously known as ‘Unseen Story‘.
The change in terminology, while subtle, marks an effort to ensure clarity for users.
How to Turn ‘Unviewed Story’ Notifications Off
If you find these notifications to be intrusive, Snapchat provides the option to turn them off:
- Launch Snapchat and tap on your profile icon in the top left corner.
- Tap on the gear icon in the top right to go to Settings.
- Navigate to ‘Notifications’ under ‘My Account’.
- Here, uncheck the box next to ‘Stories from Friends’.
Be aware that turning off these notifications means you might miss some updates from friends.
If you wish to reactivate the notifications, simply follow the same steps and re-check the box.
