Snapchat Plus was rolled out on the 29th of June 2022, it gives users access to premium features for a monthly fee of $3.99/£4.49.
As a Snapchat+ subscriber you get access to 17 extra features:
- Unpin My AI
- Changeable App Icon
- Changeable Theme Colors
- Dark Mode
- Post-View Emoji
- Pinnable #1 Best Friend
- Changeable Map Appearance
- Replay Again
- Chat Effects
- A Snapchat+ Badge On Your Profile
- Friends Solar System

1. Unpin My AI
My AI is the new AI chatbot that has been added to your Snapchat chats.
By default it is pinned to the top of your chats.
While some users find it useful many others want to get rid of it. Unfortunately this isn’t possible unless you’re a Snapchat+ subscriber.
For Snapchat+ users all you have to do is:
- Tap the Snapchat+ banner in your profile.
- Toggle My AI off.
2. Changeable App Icon
Snapchat’s default app icon can be changed if you’re a Snapchat+ user.
With 44 different icons to choose from you can personalize the icon to match your own style.
One downside to this feature that I discovered myself is that it now takes me ages to find the app on my phone as I don’t recognize the icon anymore!
3. Changeable Theme Colors
You can also change the theme colors.
You can change the appearance of the capture button to different colors, a fidget spinner, a diamond, various balls and other options.
You can also change the color of the recording frame.
For example in the image below I changed the recording frame to green and the capture button to a fidget spinner:
4. Dark Mode
Snapchat Plus has a Dark Mode feature.
As of July 2023 this is marked as being ‘pre-release’ which may mean they’re going to release it to all users or it may mean that not all Snapchat+ users have access yet – your guess is as good as mine!
Either way, it’s a nice little feature that changes how Snapchat looks for the better in my opinion.
5. Post-View Emoji
This feature allows you to select an emoji to show by default to friends immediately after they view any snap you send them.
6. Pinnable #1 Best Friend
They will stay at the top of your friend list in the pinned ‘Best Friends’ spot even if you talk to someone else more.
7. Changeable Map Appearance
Ever wanted to change how your Bitmoji looks on the Snap Map? …maybe not? But regardless now you can!
Snapchat+ allows you to change your map appearance.
Your default emoji can have a pet, you can choose from:
- A cat
- A parrot
- A Guineapig
- A stingray
- A salamander
- or a panda
You can also edit your car so you are not always traveling in the default car, your options are:
- A black pickup truck
- A pink sports car
- A blue flying car
- A hamburger car
- A red racing car
8. Replay Again
As a Snapchat+ user, you can rewatch any Snap twice right after you see it.
- After viewing a friend’s Snap, hold your finger down on their name.
- Tap the Snap quickly to replay it.
- To watch it a second time, hold down on your friend’s name again.
Remember, if you exit the chat before replaying a Snap, you’ll lose the chance to watch it again.
9. Chat Effects
Chat effects allows you to enlarge or shrink the size of the text in your chats, by simply swiping and holding up or down on the text input box.
10. A Snapchat+ Badge On Your Profile
The snapchat+ badge looks like this ✪ and appears next to your name on your profile.
If you don’t want everyone to see that you’re a Snapchat+ user it can be turned off in the Snapchat Plus settings menu.
11. Friends Solar System
The ‘Friends Solar System’ assigns your top 8 friends on Snapchat a planet based on how much they interact with you.
There are 8 planets you can be given, their closeness to the sun shows you how close you are to your friend.
For example, if you are someone’s top friend then you will be assigned Mercury, the closest planet to the sun.
In order to see the Snapchat planets and work out where you rank in a friend’s solar system you need:
- To have joined Snapchat Plus.
- You and your friend must have a linked Bitmoji.
- To know what each of the planets means.
12. Story Rewatch Counter
If anyone rewatches one of your stories you will see the eyes emoji 👀 underneath it, next to the emoji is a number that tells you how many times the story has been rewatched (this is not a view counter but a rewatch counter).
13. Priority Story Replies
As a Snapchat+ subscriber, your replies to public stories are given greater visibility giving you more chance of getting a reply.
14. Custom Notification Sounds
Snapchat+ gives you 12 notification sounds. These can be set up to trigger for different friends.
The sounds are called:
- Alien Amulet
- Bottle Pop
- Click World
- Digi Drip
- Fairy Glass
- Friendly Object
- Log Goblin
- Melody Beach
- Mini Drop
- Star Lite
- Stone Web
- Techno Zone
You can hear what they sound like in this video:
15. Bitmoji Backgrounds
With Snapchat+ you have access to customizable Bitmoji backgrounds.
You can also choose a variety of poses for your Bitmoji.
Your Bitmoji background will appear in your profile header.
16. Customizable Chat Wallpapers
If you go to a friend’s profile you can set a custom chat wallpaper for your chat.
You can either choose one of Snapchat’s suggested wallpapers or you can upload your own image from your camera roll.`
17. Story Boost
Story boost means that your Snapchat story will get more views as it will be moved to the front of the line for views.
Your friends won’t know that it has been boosted.
Over the time that Snapchat+ has been out there have been a number of features that have been and gone, these include:
- Ghost Trails – This lets users see their friends’ location history for the past 24 hours, it was removed in favour of live location in early 2023.
- Story Timer – this allowed you to set a time for your story to expire, we can’t find anything official saying when or why this feature was removed however it’s definitely not there anymore.
We will update this article as more features are added and removed.
Is Snapchat Plus Worth It?
As of 14th July 2023 a Snapchat Plus subscription in the UK currently costs £3.99 per month, or £21.99 GBP for 6 months or for £39.99 per year.
If you’re in the U.S prices are slightly cheaper at $3.99 per month, or $21.99 USD for 6 months, or $39.99 USD per year.
Is Snapchat+ worth that kind of money?
It’s hard to quantify but if you’re a power user then maybe, just maybe, it could be worth it, however for most people it’d be fair to say it’s a waste of money.
To help quantify how ‘worth it’ Snapchat+ is (or isn’t) I’ve put together a table below, based on how useful or fun I found each of the Snapchat+ features:
|Feature||Usefulness Score||Fun Score||Worth Paying For?|
|Unpin My AI||2/10||1/10||❌|
|Changeable App Icon||2/10||3/10||❌|
|Changeable Theme Colors||2/10||4/10||❌|
|Pinnable #1 Best Friend||4/10||2/10||❌|
|Changeable Map Appearance||2/10||5/10||❌|
|A Snapchat+ Badge On Your Profile||2/10||1/10||❌|
|Friends Solar System||3/10||5/10||❌|
|Story Rewatch Counter||2/10||2/10||❌|
|Priority Story Replies||7/10||5/10||✅|
|Custom Notification Sounds||6/10||6/10||❌|
|Customizable Chat Wallpapers||2/10||6/10||❌|
As you can see there are only two features in Snapchat+ that I would consider worth paying for, and I certainly wouldn’t be interested in paying £3.99/month just to use those.
However, if you are a content creator or Snapchat influencer then £3.99/month could be a bargain as Story Boost inparticular could really help your platform grow to new levels.
